• What is Yule?

Yule (you-oul) is a Pagan holiday celebrated by Satanists and Pagans around the world every year during the winter solstice. It is a holiday dedicated to celebrating with those who made your year amazing, like family and friends, kind of like a season finale to the year.

Winter was stressful for many at the time, especially for the Pagans, with limited food and extremely cold temperatures. Yule festivals helped bring people together, encouraged gift giving, and lighting candles, all while giving people time to get drunk and party together around a large campfire.

Now you may be thinking "wait, isn't Yule around the same time as Christmas?" and you are correct. It turns out that when Christian leaders gained power in Europe, they were outraged by Yule for not promoting Christianity and demanded that it become a day celebrating Jesus's birthday (despite not actually knowing when Jesus was actually born). These Christian leaders knew that they wouldn't be able to easily ban Yule celebrations, so instead of banning them, they decided to pretend that Yule was about Jesus all along, while allowing the Pagans to continue their celebrations, so long as they agreed to keep Jesus's birth at the center of their holiday

Nowadays, Yule is still celebrated by many, though Christmas has become a far more popular holiday. The history of Pagan holidays like Yule is quite fascinating, as their ideas of spending time with your loved ones, eating large meals, and gift giving have inspired the main ideas of holidays like Christmas today.
